Kishanganj: Hinting at tough measures to maintain communal harmony and peace across Kishanganj, new SP Rajiv Ranjan on Sunday evening said the district authorities will not hesitate to invoke the National Security Act (NSA) and Crime Control Act (CCA) against those who try to disturb peace and vitiate the atmosphere of communal harmony
in the district.
The SP while addressing a press conference said, “Policemen in plain clothes are on the streets to identify and round up the rumourmongers who try to spread disinformation with the intent to disturb peace across the town.”
He said video-footage and others are also being explored to pinpoint the possible trouble makers ever since the incident of recovery of slaughtered animal before a religious place in Utarpali on October 6 evening. Besides, the police are working overtime to find out how and what exactly happened on October 6 evening which triggered violence, the SP said, adding the administration will not even hesitate to extern them once solid evidences are collected against the miscreants.
Kishanganj DM Animesh Kumar Parashar said prohibitory orders were further relaxed and will now be in force between 10 pm and 6 am for the next 48 hours as rumours though scotched in time still threatened to jeopardize the prevailing atmosphere of peace. Special watch is being kept on Pichhla and Daula panchayats in Kishanganj district adjoining Kanki in West Bengal which had witnessed through similar incidents on October 11 night, the DM said.
Besides patrolling and deployment of forces in the town, the situation was being reviewed and re-evaluated from time to time, the DM said.
